Sympathy,

The Sudden and unexpected death of Cyril Hoffman on the 30th July was a terrible shock to his family, the parish community and to the pupils and staff of Sanford Park school in Ranelagh where he was vice principal. The esteem in which he was held by current and former staff and students was so evident from the comments on RIP.ie and from the representatives of the school who travelled by Bus and car to be present in Ballymacelligott Church and in Ballyseedy graveyard for his funeral, with his colleague and Principal, former students and friends taking part in the service.

While we were limited to 50 people in the church, the solemn and respectful guard of honour by staff, Students, Parishioners was a fitting testimony to his memory and a sign of respect for a teacher and vice principal who went beyond the call of duty.

Before the service began the principal asked if it was  OK for the students to bring in flowers that were left at Sandford Park when news of his death broke on Saturday, it was very moving to witness the almost never-ending procession of students with flowers which filled almost to overflowing the sanctuary of Ballymac Church. We hold his Mum Olive, sisters Stephanie and Sylvia, his brother in laws, Henry and John and his beloved nieces in our thoughts and prayers.

We also remember the family of the late Eve Johnson of Knockavrogeen East, Dingle, who died in University Hospital Limerick,She will be greatly missed by her  partner John Gibney, her  son Mike, daughter in law Rosie, grandchildren Natalie and Michelle, great grandchild Eabha, relatives and friends. She was buried in St Brendans burial ground in Dingle after a private family service

The LORD is close to the broken hearted and saves those

who are crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:18,

Chapter Rota,

The Very Rev Niall Sloane , Dean of Limerick will preside and preach in St Johns on the 19th September. Niall when he was appointed introduced the practice whereby both he and the Dean of Killaloe would visit each parish, where the Rector is on the Cathedral Chapter, which means I will be in St Marys that Sunday !

A Christian Aid fund raising walk on the Kerry Way takes place this Sunday 5th September, meeting in the car park of Anascaul RC Church carpark at 2pm. The walk will be between Anascaul and Inch , it is about 10km. However walkers can walk as much or as little as they wish. Donations can be made online, or on day or to Rev Jim,  if walkers so wish. We can adjust the distance to suit the walkers.

Confirmation. The confirmation service will take place in St Johns on the morning of 3rd October either at the normal Sunday time or possibly at 12noon. Our last letter on such events from the Diocese indicated that the most we could have in Church would be 50 people. This would have meant that each family would only be able to have a small number of family members present. However the situation has changed since and I will let people know the time of the service and if there will be a limit in the numbers attending, once we have further information from the diocese. Thank you for your patience

Return to School, College and Training

We wish all those starting school , college or beginning a training course or employment every blessing as they make a new start.

Prayer

Loving God, our creator, our friend, our companion, bless the journey of the new year that we are now beginning. Bless our teachers, lecturers and friends as we make our way back to the classrooms and lecture halls for another year. Help everyone to feel the excitement and joy in the promise of a new start. Give us everything we need to start our classes.

Friends of St James,

Congratulations to the Friends of St James on their very successful Vintage fair which was held in the church grounds last weekend.

A farmer placed a weathercock inscribed with the words "God is love" on the top of his barn. One day a traveller, stopped to look and with a smirk asked the farmer standing at the door: "Do you think that God's love can change so lightly like the vane you have up there?" With a smile the farmer replied: "No my friend. That is meant to show that whichever way the wind blows, God is love."
