Teach an tSolais, always available for hire.

This is a wonderful facility in our parish and serves us well, however the various rooms are also available for rent when not in use by the parish. Any income that can be generated will help defray the cost of its upkeep which is quite substantial. The parish centre has to be insured, heated, maintained, there are additional cost such as light, heat, waste water, waste disposal, security and the provision of fire safety plus the additional unexpected costs that appear from time to time.

If anyone knows of anyone who may want to use a room for any particular purpose, please contact The Rector or Simon Keating.

Confirmation.

The confirmation service will take place in St John’s this Sunday 3rd October at 11.15am.

We are advising those who would normally attend to the 10.45am service in Tralee to attend either Ballymac or Ballyseedy. This is to ensure that each family group can have up to 8 people present as well as the candidate. We are still bound by social distancing regulations etc.

Please remember, Noel, Favour, Laura, Billy, Peter, Jamie, Joe, Christopher lucy, Dorcas and their families in your prayers.

Baptism,

On Sunday the 12th September Padraig Alexander Hoffman was welcomed into the family of the church at his baptism in St John’s Church Ashe Street Tralee.

It was a lovely occasion to be present with Alex and Kay and their respective families for the celebration. The Rector was assisted by the Rev Fr Francis Nolan.

On Sunday the 26th September was another happy occasion as three of the Roberts family, Dorcas, favour and Noel were baptised in St Johns during the morning service.

It was lovely to see them in their traditional robes.

A Christian Aid fund raising walk on the Kerry between Anascaul and Inch took place on the 5th September, and what a lovely afternoon we enjoyed with perfect walking conditions in a most beautiful place.

Seventeen walkers from the parish took part and around €600 was raised by both the walkers and many other of our parishioners who so generously donated.

Some of the party enjoyed refreshments at Sammy’s on Inch beach and more returned to the Hoffman family farm where they were entertained and nourished very generously by Sandra and Robert.

Ballymacelligott Church.

Work has begun on the tower after a long summer of uncertainty on the availability of crafts people and a tight deadline within which the work had to be done. The parish received a grant from the department of Heritage via the Structures of risk fund that is facilated by the heritage department of Kerry County Council. Even with the grant it was still a challenge to get the necessary match funding, however we were delighted to receive a gift of €5000 from Ann Williams who was born in Ballymac and worshipped there as a child. She gives this very generous donation in memory of her parents and grandparents as the Church was very important to them and a focal point for their lives.

March Kinch, what a woman, Mary celebrated her 90th Birthday recently with a little gathering for her friends. We were delighted to be able to present her with flowers to mark the occasion at the Sunday morning service, Shirley sang Happy Birthday on our behalf. Mary is a wonderful example of faithfulness and determination.

Culture night

This was marked in St Johns with the showing of some short films and it is great to see such activities returning after a long and difficult year.

All Saints tide service of remembrance

This service will be held in Tralee on the 31st October and we will light a candle and remember all those who died in the parish or were associated with the parish during the year.

We will also have cards present in the back of St Johns, on which parishioners can write the names of loved who they would like to remember.

or if you would like me to write the name on the card on your behalf, please email me at stjohns.ashestreet@gmail.com

These will be placed on the memory tree in the church.

Harvest Thanksgiving

These will be more informal in nature this year but at the same time we will mark the season with celebrations in Tralee, Ballymac and Ballyseedy on the 17th October and In Camp and Dingle on the 24th October.

4th October Feast of St Francis of Assisi

Today (Oct 4th) is the feast of St. Francis and he is one of those rare saints who has managed to capture the attention and admiration of the entire world. His life has inspired people of all ages and the appeal of this saint, cuts across national boundaries and religious differences. He is most famous for his respect towards God, his simple life and his tender love and attention to all creation.

'Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope. Where there is darkness, light and where there is sadness, joy.' ~St. Francis Of Assisi
