The Harvest Thanksgiving celebrations went so well in Tralee and Kilgobbin and any words of mine are unable to do justice to the work that so many people put in to ensure that the churches looked so well for the occasion. Many thanks to Decorators, Church Wardens, Readers, Choir Singers, speakers and the all-important tea makers and bakers in Camp, all of whom contributed to making them enjoyable celebrations.

Harvest with the Schools.

As per tradition on the Wednesday after the Harvest in Tralee, the children from St Johns and the 2nd Year classes from CBS come together. It is always good to come together to pray and to sing and this was Mr. Coleman’s last time to be present as he retires at the end of the year from CBS and we wish him well.

Tralee Soup Kitchen 10th Anniversary

The Tralee Soup Kitchen which is based in St Johns Parish centre (Teach an tSolais) in Ashe Street, Tralee celebrated its tenth anniversary last Saturday. The soup kitchen is a parish organization and was founded by Colette Price and a number of other parishioners in 2012.

Colette still runs the soup kitchen with the support of Mary, John, Kerry and Noreen every Saturday morning in the parish centre.

They serve a three-course meal to whoever comes in the door and provide support and friendship to all. It’s a wonderful team and the parish are very proud of what they do.

This ministry was maintained during Covid with a takeaway service for all but a few weeks at the height of the outbreak.

The Mayor of Tralee Cllr Mickey Sheehy presented a plaque to Collette and the team to mark their ten years in existence. Congratulations one and all.

Jesse Tree On 4th December, we will hold a service in St. John's based on the theme of the Jesse Tree.  All primary school children in the parish are invited and encouraged to take part.  The idea is that each child would be given a bible story to familiarise themselves with in advance and a decoration to make corresponding with the story.  Then at the service they will bring their decorations and place them on the tree as we hear readings to match each one.  If your child would like to be involved, please contact Olive Flynn (086 3102577) for more details. It is hoped that this will provide an opportunity for families to come together during Advent and take a little time out from the busy preparations for Christmas.

All Saints Tide service of remembrance is sacred time as we remember with love those who were an important part of our lives but have passed to their eternal home. Their love touched our lives in a multiplicity of ways and we mark it in a number of different ways during the month of November.

There are many traditions, family gatherings, visiting graves and putting flowers on them is one such practice and its always lovely to see graves that are well cared for and equally sad to see those that are neglected.

On this Sunday the  6th November a service of remembering will be held in St Johns and we are inviting anyone whose loved died in the previous twelve month to be present to light a candle in their memory.

Indeed, anyone who wishes a loved one to remembered no matter how far back in time it has been since they have died are welcome to come. Please let the Rev Jim know if wish for them to be remembered by name.

Death leaves a heartache no one can heal; love leaves a memory no one can steal’
