Special Collection for those suffering as a result of the conflict in Ukraine.

We have been asked to make a special collection in our churches for those affected by the crisis in Ukraine. This will run for the next two Sundays to allow parishioners to contribute. Special baskets will be available as you enter or leave the churches.

Let us Pray for Ukraine at this terrible time.

Almighty Father, whose will is to restore all things

in your beloved Son, the king of all:

Govern the hearts and minds of those in authority,

and bring the families of the nations,

divided and torn apart by the ravages of sin,

to be subject to his just and gentle rule;

who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Prayers for Ukraine

This friday night at 7pm St Johns Ashe Street.

Lent is that time when we are called to reflect and take stock its about giving up and taking up.

It’s a time to give a little of our time to God in Church and in private prayer and for those who embrace this during lent you are also giving in the sense that you are giving encouragement to our small communities.

Fasting, Alms giving and Prayer and the three pillars of lent.

When we think of fasting, we think of austere diets, giving up anything that is nice and pleasurable as a way of identifying with Christ’s experience in the wilderness. While fasting can take that form it should never in my mind anyway be a joyless, painful experience of denial. What it can be about is working on eliminating those things which prevent is from loving God our neighbour and ourselves and prompt us to feed into to the other two challenges of Lent which are Alms giving and prayer. In Tralee and Dingle our alms giving takes many forms and during lent we generally support Bishop’s appeal

This year the Project is called ‘Increasing the climate resilience of families in ‘El Corridor Seco’ – the dry corridor in Honduras.

Honduras is one of the least developed countries in Central America, and ‘El Corridor Seco’ (the Central American dry corridor), a tropical area of dry forestland is particularly vulnerable to climate change, with dramatic periods of drought followed by extreme flooding and landslides as seen during the recent Hurricanes Eta and Iota.

The project detail:

1.To develop specific training programmes suitable for farming on slopes. This training will be delivered using a hands-on workshop approach so the farmers can access all the practical support they need during their sessions.

2.To provide farming inputs – seeds, fruit trees, materials to collect rainwater, support to make and store organic fertiliser, tools like spades and hoes, and small livestock like hens and fish.

Bishop Appeal envelopes will be available in the churches during lent.

And thirdly during lent we are challenged to work a little harder on our prayer lives.

Confirmation classes

Registration for confirmation began in Tralee on the 20th March and will continue in Ballymac on the 6th March. Classes will begin on the 9th March in Teach an tSolais at 6.30pm

Mothering Sunday

A united service on the 27th March, the fourth Sunday of Lent will be held in Tralee to celebrate mothering Sunday. I am planning that the confirmation group will take part in this service.

Bishop beginning his ministry

Bishop Michael will begin his ministry in the Kerry area with a Liturgical welcome in St Johns Ashe Street on the 11th June, The Feast of St Barnabas at 7pm.

This will be an important service for the Ardfert and Aghadoe area and for our parish.

SympathyTo Hazel and Michael Prendergast and their family in Ballyseedy and extended family on the death of Mike’s mother Bridie. Her funeral Mass took place in Ballymacelligott followed by burial in Rath cemetery Tralee.

To the family of the late Autie Boyle of Oakpark Tralee. Autie died after a short illness surrounded by his family, His wife Pat, Children, Marina, Caroline, Dick, Oonagh and Alison, his ten grandchildren extended family, brothers, Richie, George, Ernie and Alfie.

Autie was a hard worker beginning his life as a stone mason, contributing in his later life to the success of Boyle Bros. and their various enterprises, the result of so much hard work and vision. He will be remembered for many things and in recent years for the thousands of euros that he raised for charities such as the Kerry Hospice from the many golf balls he collected on his daily walk.

Congratulations to Susanne and Richard Boyle On the birth of their grandson Noah, to Shane and Andrea in Dublin. Noah is the first great grandchild for Mary Kinch.
